Our research is aimed to provide detailed knowledge on the mechanisms of sex steroid action in
normal and diseased target tissues. We have shown e.g. that serum concentrations of sex steroids
do not reflect their intra tissue concentrations e.g. in the endometrium and endometriosis, while the
local activation and inactivation markedly regulate the ligand availability for the steroid receptors.
We propose that inhibiting the local sex steroid synthesis is a valid approach to reduce the growth-
promoting action of sex steroids in the target tissues, e.g. in the endometrium and endometrial
diseases.
